Time Management

Introduction into time management:

Time management is the process of planning and controlling how much time to spend on specific activities. Good time management enables an individual to complete more in a shorter period, lowers stress, and leads to career success and life fulfillment.

It may appeal to you that there is never enough time in the day.

But, since we all get the same 24 hours, why can some people achieve much more with their time than you? The answer is good time management.

The professional achievers manage their time very well. By applying the proper time-management techniques and habits, you can improve your ability to function better, faster, and that will lead to efficiency – even when time is tight, and pressures are high, you have nothing to worry about with the right mindset.

A brief explanation of time management philosophies:

So, we need to get one thing clear before anything else: time doesn’t equal effort, and time is not money.

Suppose you consider the value of your time as an asset that you own, a minimal one you spend between your family, friends, work, personal stuff, etc. In that case, you will find that the value of time is situational and differs between a person and another.

Some people would prioritize paid hours over anything else. Some others would instead spend their time with a friend, partner, or family member or maybe on their own for hobbies, sports, or anything else that might ignite their sense of passion.

You have to consider the idea that we are more time-rich than our predecessors and how new technologies give us more time in our day, for example, nowadays it only takes you some minutes to prepare a meal for yourself or your family.

In comparison, in the past, it took much more time, the farther you go back in history, the more you find that we have more time in our daily lives now than what our predecessors had before us.

So, in reality, we do have more time than ever, but we don’t manage it well and end up in situations where we either make sacrifices or make excuses, but there’s only one of those that makes our life meaningful.

When you adopt a philosophical approach to time management and use your time wisely, it is not only you who benefits! The way we manage our time shapes our lives and the lives of people around us, so good time management can revolutionize societies if you look at the big picture here.

A Brief History of Time Management:

Susan Ward explains in an article for The Balance.

“ It was during the industrial revolution and the rise of factory work that people had to learn to live by the clock rather than by the sun.”

In 1911, Frederick Winslow Taylor published “The Principles of Scientific Management,” which presented a management theory where factory managers analyzed the best way to do a job. They then provided the appropriate training and resources, along with incentives, to improve performance.
